Igor Burzanovic gave Nagoya Grampus an incredible start to their Tokai derby against Jubilo Iwata by scoring from the halfway line with almost the first kick of the game and Nagoya held on to record their first league win over Iwata since August 2006. Kawasaki Frontale and Vegalta Sendai, the last teams on maximum points, both fell to their first defeats of the new league season, and Shimizu S-Pulse moved to the top of the table on goal difference ahead of Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Kashima Antlers.
Nagoya Grampus made a dream start in their 2-0 victory over Jubilo Iwata at the Nagoya Mizuho Athletics Stadium. Montenegro midfielder Burzanovic spotted Iwata keeper Naoki Hatta off his line and straightaway pelted a high ball towards goal. Hatta pedalled back frantically but could not reach the shot as it dipped in under the bar.
Nagoya continued to produce a string of chances. Alex, at left full back for his first game of the season, delivered a free kick that Josh Kennedy back-headed past the post. Keiji Tamada hit the post. Then Hatta saved a Burzanovic free kick. Iwata, too, were creating openings through good running by Norihiro Nishi and Takuya Matsuura, with full backs Yuichi Komano and Park Joo Ho always looking dangerous, and Daisuke Nasu headed against the Nagoya bar. As the match progressed, however, the defences gained the upper hand and it began to look as if Burzanovic's extraordinary strike might be the only one. Nagoya's second came two minutes from the end of normal time when Kennedy met Mu Kanazaki's cross to head in at the far post.
"We played with very stable defence today and very good determination," said Nagoya manager Dragan Stojkovic, who no doubt had in mind not only the three conceded to Kawasaki last week but also Ryoichi Maeda's hat trick for Iwata in this same fixture last year. "The game was very tough from the psychological point of view because we lost our last home game even though we played good football, so today's win was very important to get back on track. We saw very good combination and good movement, not only from Grampus but also from Jubilo, but in the end we go what we wanted, which was the three points." And about Burzanovic's goal: "It was a very unexpectable goal, and very nice to see that sort of football."
Shimizu S-Pulse not only maintained their unbeaten start but also went top of the table with a narrow 1-0 home win over Vissel Kobe. Shinji Okazaki was still recovering from last week's dental damage so Genki Omae lined up with Frode Johnsen and Jungo Fujimoto in the three-man attack. It was defender Eddy Bosnar, though, who slammed in the crucial goal with his great left foot seven minutes from the end of normal time at a direct free kick, taking Shimizu's tally to seven points from their first three games.
"That was a game we could easily have lost," said Shimizu manager Kenta Hasegawa. "We couldn't really play our kind of football all game. But Yohei (Nishibe) made a couple of fine saves and Eddy placed his shot well. Kobe must be thinking they were very unlucky but it was a very lucky game for S-Pulse and I'd say, viewed over the whole season, that it is OK sometimes to get the three points this way."
Sanfrecce Hiroshima are also on seven points following their 3-1 win at Shonan Bellmare. Hisato Sato scored one with each foot either side of half time, Satoru Yamagishi providing both times, and Yamagishi dribbled through to score the third himself. Koji Sakamoto netted Shonan's consolation goal from the penalty spot. Hiroshima's Yojiro Takahagi was missing, though, due to a knee injury sustained in last week's match in Kobe.
Kashima Antlers edged Omiya Ardija 1-0 at the NACK5 Stadium to put aside the bad memories of the drubbing they received in Omiya last August, the first defeat of their five-match losing streak. Substitute Yuya Osako met a low cross from Marquinhos to score with his very first touch of the ball seven minutes from time. Antlers also move up to seven points while Omiya's record now reads one win, one draw and one loss.
The Nakamura magic worked again for Yokohama F-Marinos, who drubbed Kawasaki Frontale 4-0 in front of 35,870 fans at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama. That big win took Yokohama's total to seven goals with no reply in two games – both Kanagawa derbies – since Shunsuke Nakamura's return. This time, Yokohama manager Kazushi Kimura used Kenta Kano, who scored that wonderful third goal last week, from the start and brought Koji Yamase forward to play alongside Kazuma Watanabe.
The formula worked a treat. Yamase shot against the post in only the eighth minute. That ball was cleared but only as far as Nakamura, nearly 30 metres out, who curled it back into the top corner of the net with his trademark left-foot drive. Yamase added two more before half time and Yuzo Kurihara then rose to head in at a Nakamura corner for a second game in a row a quarter of an hour into the second half. Despite his long absence, that was Nakamura's 150th J. League game. It was also Kawasaki goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima's 27th birthday but one he might prefer to forget.
Vegalta Sendai, the only other club with two wins out of two, fell to their first defeat 2-1 at Kyoto Sanga. Makoto Kukuda gave Kyoto a fine start by heading in Daigo Watanabe's cross in only the sixth minute. Takayuki Nakahara equalised, also with a header, at a Ryang Yong Gi free kick but Diego, who scored that dramatic late equaliser against Kashima last week, had the final word in the fifty-third minute by touching Atsushi Yanagisawa's shot over the line.
Gamba Osaka and Albirex Niigata, both still looking for their first win of the season, drew 0-0 at the Expo '70 Commemorative Stadium in Osaka. Marcio Richardes hit the Gamba bar in the first half and Akira Kaji the Niigata bar in the second. For Gamba, that now makes a worrisome six winless games in a row, including their matches in the Fuji Xerox Super Cup and AFC Champions League. Gamba's troubles were also compounded when Lucas was stretchered off in the second half.
Cerezo Osaka followed up last week's home draw against Gamba with another well-earned point, this time in a 0-0 draw at FC Tokyo. Amaral was out with a knee injury but Kenji Haneda moved up from the back line to fill in solidly in rear midfield and former FC Tokyo defensive favourite Teruyuki Moniwa was determined to impress at his old club. 20-year old Kim Young Gwon made his first appearance for Tokyo at left fullback. Tokyo did most of the attacking and forced a number of outstanding saves from Cerezo keeper Kim Jin Hyeon in both halves. Sota Hirayama also slammed a long shot against the Cerezo post. At the other end, Shinji Kagawa produced several dangerous moments and Yuto Nagatomo did well to block an effort by Hiroyuki Omata. It was then Cerezo who created a string of chances in stoppage time. Cerezo's Taikai Uemoto, though, suffered an arm injury late in the game.
Montedio Yamagata and Urawa Reds drew 1-1 at the NDsoft Stadium Yamagata. The home team were without last year's top scorer Yu Hasegawa following last week's knee injury in Shimizu and the challenge grew harder when Urawa's Edmilson headed in a ball from Hajime Hosogai in the 30th minute. Yamagata fought back bravely and Katsuyuki Miyazawa secured a share of the points in the 58th minute by shooting in at a Tatsuya Furuhashi free kick. Naohiro Takahara came on for Urawa at the finish to make his first appearance this season but Yamagata held firm.

Urawa Red Diamonds – Shonan Bellmare 1 (Asian Handicap) @ 1.83 Pinna.
Modesto tentativo per me, immagino i Diamonds vorranno riscattarsi dell'opaca prestazione offerta qualche giorno fa in Nabisco Cup, avversari alla portata, due gol posson starci, gioco poco perchè degli Urawa Red Diamonds devo ancora capire il reale valore quest'anno.
Saluti e buona Pasqua a tutti.
